Welcome to the website of the California Housing Workers' Compensation Authority. 

The California Housing Workers' Compensation Authority (CHWCA) is a California joint powers insurance authority established in 1991 for the purpose of providing workers' compensation coverage to California public housing authorities.  CHWCA was formed pursuant to Article I, Chapter 5, Division 7, Title 1 of the California Government Code (Section 6500, et seq).

Court Decision on Interpretation of EWC Policies - Thursday, April 3, 2008
A recent Superior Court decision (Supervalu Inc. dba New Albertson’s Inc. v. Wexford Underwriting Managers; TransAmerica Insurance Co; TIG Insurance Co.; and Continental Insurance Co.), (LC076533) clarified that the cost of each injury suffered by a worker must stand on its own regarding meeting the excess “retention” level.  The outcome of this case supports the way excess claims are reported for CHWCA. We have asked in the past and continue to require that all claims “stand alone” and that payments and reserves relate to the specific claim and not be lumped under one “Master” file.  read more ...
